The novel is a "what might have been.&q...RT, <br /><br />The novel is a "what might have been." <br /><br />The novel is an alternative historical novel, a detective story (the main character is a Scotland Yard detective working now for the Nazis) and a crackling thriller.<br /><br />Len Deighton, the author of the 1960's spy thrillers "The Ipcress File" and "Funeral in Berlin," is in his eighties now.
