International Paratroopers Land In Normandy France On The 70th Anniversary Of D-Day

In the above Defense Department released photo a U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft drops U.S. and international paratroopers to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France on June 8, 2014. More than 700 paratroopers from the United States, France, Germany, England and the Netherlands re-enacted the historic airdrop over the town of Chef-du-Pont, France.

In the above Defense Department released photo thousands of people photograph U.S. and international paratroopers as they land in the Normandy region of France on June 8, 2014.

Note: Since June 6th, the 70th anniversary of D-Day, I've been watching Band of Brothers on HBO On Demand. I saw the series when it originally aired in 2001 and I'm enjoying watching it again.

'Band Of Brothers' WWII Veteran Edward 'Babe' Heffron Dies At 90

Bonnie L. Cook at the Philadelphia Inquirer offers an obituary of Edward J. 'Babe' Hefforn, a South Philly WWII veteran who was portrayed in the book and TV mini-series Band of Brothers and wrote Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends with his fellow South Philly paratrooper William 'Wild Bill' Guarnere.

Edward J. "Babe" Heffron, 90, the former Easy Company private whose World War II experiences were chronicled in the cable TV miniseries Band of Brothers, died Sunday, Dec. 1, at Kennedy Hospital in Stratford.
Mr. Heffron served as a machine gunner with the Second Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 101st Airborne Division from 1941 to 1945.
He fought in some of the major conflicts of the European Theater - Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands and the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium - and used his stories as fodder for a memoir.
The 2007 work, Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends: Two WWII Paratroopers from the Original Band of Brothers Tell Their Story, was written with longtime friend William Guarnere and journalist Robyn Post.

Paul Davis

Paul Davis is a writer who covers crime. He has written extensively about organized crime, cybercrime, street crime, white collar crime, crime fiction, crime prevention, the military, espionage and terrorism. He is a contributor to the Washington Examiner and Counterterrorism magazine, and he writes the magazine's online 'Threatcon' column. He retired in 2007 after more than 37 Navy/DOD years of service and became a full-time writer.
