Melonie Magruder at the Lookout News reports on the Santa Monica, California Citywide Reads program that will feature the late great crime writer Raymond Chandler's fourth novel, The Lady in the Lake.

... But Santa Monica – or Bay City - inspired some of Chandler’s best metaphorical prose, including lines like Moose Malloy looking “as inconspicuous as a tarantula on a slice of angel food.”
