Kill-Or-Capture: U.S. Intelligence Official Says Fanatical Islamic Cleric Involved in Numerous Terrorist Plots

Bill Gertz, the outstanding national security correspondent for The Washington Times, reports that a senior American intelligence official said that Anwar al-Awlaki played a major role in numerous terrorist plots, including the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a Northwest Airliner.

The fanatical Islamic cleric is the subject of a debate over the Obama administration's "kill-or-capture" order on him, as he has dual American-Yemeni citizenship.

But James R. Clapper, the new Director of National Intelligence, said in a court statement that al-Awlaki has played a key role in planning attacks on U.S. interests since 2009.
