Cool Navy Photo: Aircraft Carrier USS Carl Vinson Getting Underway from North Island, San Diego

The above U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Lowell Whitman shows the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) getting underway from Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, California to conduct sea trials on Feb.1, 2013.

 

The photo brings back memories to me as I served on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CVA 63) during the Vietnam War in 1970-1971 and the Kitty Hawk got underway from this very point back in those days.

 

I have fond memories of the Kitty Hawk, North Island and the City of San Diego.

Cool Navy Photo: Carrier All-Hands Swim Call

The Abraham Lincoln is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility conducting maritime security operations, theater security cooperation efforts and support missions as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
