A Little Humor: Elderly Woman Escapes Nursing Home, Rants About Deprogramming The Populace

The satirical Babylon Bee offers a funny take on Hillary Clinton’s latest CNN interview.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Viewers are perplexed by a CNN television interview featuring a deranged old lady who recently escaped from an elder care facility, angrily ranting about wanting to "deprogram" half of the nation's population.

"They must comply! Deplorables! All of ‘em!" the disheveled geriatric growled at the camera while CNN's Christiane Amanpour attempted to de-escalate the situation. "If they don't fall in line, we'll round them up and re-educate them! De-program them! Re-program them! If that doesn't work, then we'll just disappear them! Yes! Yeeeeeeessssssss! Ahahahahahahaha!"

The CNN interview team did their best to remain calm, despite the obvious threat posed by the tottering, decrepit woman. "She may be old and frail, but you can tell she's serious," said one member of the television crew. "We heard she escaped from a nursing home nearby, but you could tell she's terrorized people in the past. Chilling, dangerous stuff. Or maybe she's just completely insane, who knows."

Inside Europe's Most Powerful Mafia -- The 'Ndrangheta

Tim Lister at cnn.com offers a piece on the ‘Ndrangheta, seen as the most powerful organized crime group in Europe.
(CNN) Back in 2010, Domenico Oppedisano was often seen taking his fruit to market in the town of Rosarno in southern Italy, chugging around in his three-wheeled van. But the 80-year old had another job: he was 'chairman of the board' of Italy's most powerful mafia group -- the 'Ndrangheta.
This week, police in four European countries carried out raids on the ‘Ndrangheta’s sprawling empire of money-laundering and drug-trafficking, arresting 90 people. They described "Operation Pollino" -- two years in the making - as a "decisive strike against one of the most powerful Italian criminal networks in the world."

The operation took place the day after the alleged head, or "godfather," of the Sicilian mafia, known as Cosa Nostra, was arrested with 46 other people in the Palermo region of Italy on mafia charges.

But Oppedisano, now in jail after being arrested eight years ago, may not be impressed. The 'Ndrangheta has been the target of raids and even US Treasury sanctions for well over a decade. And yet it has entrenched its dominance of the cocaine trade, forging links with organized crime groups in Latin America, New York, Turkey and Albania.

Mafia watchers estimate its turnover is probably in the range of about $60 billion a year -- similar to the GDP of Croatia or Bulgaria. And it may control as much as 80% of the cocaine entering Europe.

CNN On Democratic Governor McAuliffe’s Donation To Wife Of FBI Official ‘Deeply Involved’ In Clinton Email Probe: ‘It Sure Stinks’

Chandler Gill at the Washington Free Beacon offers a piece on CNN's response to a Wall Street Journal story that Democratic Governor McAuliffe of Virginia (seen in the above photo), a Hillary Clinton supporter, donated to the political campaign of a woman married to a key FBI official involved in the Clinton email investigation.

CNN’s John King said Monday that the campaign donation of Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s (D.) political action committee to the wife of an FBI official who investigated Hillary Clinton’s private email server “sure stinks.”
King discussed how Republicans still think Clinton is a flawed candidate, citing her email scandal and subsequent investigation, along with the ongoing WikiLeaks releases of hacked emails from her campaign chairman’s account.
He then mentioned a new Wall Street Journal story about McAuliffe’s $467,500 campaign donation.
The political organization of Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, an influential Democrat with longstanding ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton, gave nearly $500,000 to the election campaign of the wife of an official at the Federal Bureau of Investigation who later helped oversee the investigation into Mrs. Clinton’s email use.
Campaign finance records show Mr. McAuliffe’s political-action committee donated $467,500 to the 2015 state Senate campaign of Dr. Jill McCabe, who is married to Andrew McCabe, now the deputy director of the FBI.

Interview With Admiral McRaven, The Architect Of The Bin Laden raid

Peter Bergen at CNN interviewed William H. McRaven (seen in the above U.S. Navy photo in uniform), the retired Navy SEAL admiral who planned and executed the raid that killed the most wanted man in the world, Osama bin Laden.

(CNN)The man who was the architect of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden in the suburbs of a Pakistani city was getting anxious.
He had thought it was possible to keep an element of surprise and evade any response from Pakistan's military if the U.S. Navy SEALs could complete the mission in 30 minutes, Adm. William "Bill" McRaven told CNN last week in his first in-depth interview about the operation.
But after killing bin Laden and his bodyguards, some SEALs went down to the second floor of bin Laden's house and found a treasure trove of hard drives and documents. Now they were trying to pick up all this, which was stretching the time on target.
After about 40 minutes, McRaven was "getting a little bit anxious," he recalled. Speaking to the ground commander, he said, "Hey, get everything you can. But it's time to wrap this up and get out of Abbottabad." As they lifted off from the Abbottabad compound, the SEALs had spent 48 minutes on the ground.

6 Soldiers Killed Searching For "Deserter" POW, Fueling Backlash

Cheryl K. Chumley at the New York Post offers a piece on the Obama administration's POW swap for terrorists.

Six soldiers died in the frantic search for Sgt. Bowe Bergdhal immediately after his mysterious disappearance five years ago, fueling the increasing backlash over the POW’s recovery.

Former platoon mates of the now-recovered serviceman accused Bergdhal of deserting his post and blamed him for the unnecessary deaths of comrades.

“I was pissed off then and I am even more so now with everything going on,” former Sgt. Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl’s platoon, told CNN. “Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him.”

Accounts of Bergdahl’s disappearance on June 30, 2009, have varied wildly.

Agatha Christie's Secret Life As An Archaeologist

London, England (CNN) -- She is one of the best-known crime writers of all time but few know the extent of Agatha Christie's archaeological pedigree.

Married in 1930 to eminent archaeologist Max Mallowan, Christie spent two decades living on excavation sites in the Middle East, writing her crime novels and helping out with her husband's work.

(The above British Museum photo shows Christie's husband Max Mallowan, Christie and Leonard Woolley at the Biblical ruins at Ur in 1931).

Travel by boat and on the Orient Express to far-flung places such as Cairo, Damascus and Baghdad inspired some of Christie's best-known works of detective fiction, including "Murder on the Orient Express," "Death on the Nile," and "Murder in Mesopotamia."

Now, 3,000-year-old ivory artifacts recovered by Mallowan between 1949 and 1963 from the ancient city of Nimrud, in what is now Iraq, and likely cleaned by his famous wife using cotton wool buds and face cream, go on display Monday at the British Museum in London.
