Tricky Dick: Nixon Knew Castro Was A Communist From The Beginning

Carl Campanile at the New York Post offers a piece on Fidel Castro wondering how Richard Nixon knew he was a communist all along. (And so much for the false idea that bad America pushed Castro towards the Soviet Union and communism).

Fidel Castro charmed and fooled many during his lifetime. But he admitted he couldn’t trick Richard Nixon.
Nixon’s son-in-law Ed Cox visited Cuba in May 1987 with a group of European business executives, and El Comandante — who died Friday at the age of 90— agreed to a mano-a-mano chat with Cox.
Cox pulled out his old notes for the first time and revealed to The Post what he and Castro discussed during a wide-ranging four-hour meeting that ran into the wee hours.
“How did [Nixon] know I was a communist?” queried Castro. “My father-in-law was a very perceptive person,” Cox diplomatically told the dictator.

Pope Francis Appeases The Castros In Repressive Cuba

The Washington Post editorial board criticizes Pope Francis for his lack of criticism of the Castro dictatorial regime during his trip to Communist Cuba.

In his visit to the United States beginning Tuesday, Pope Francis will meet not just President Obama and Congress but also those marginalized by our society: homeless people, immigrants, refugees and even the inmates of a jail. He’s expected to raise topics that many Americans will find challenging, such as his harsh critique of capitalism. His supporters say it’s all part of the role the pope has embraced as an advocate for the powerless, one that has earned him admiration from both Catholics and some outside the church.
How, then, to explain Pope Francis’s behavior in Cuba? The pope is spending four days in a country whose Communist dictatorship has remained unrelenting in its repression of free speech, political dissent and other human rights despite a warming of relations with the Vatican and the United States. Yet by the end of his third day, the pope had said or done absolutely nothing that might discomfit his official hosts.
Pope Francis met with 89-year-old Fidel Castro, who holds no office in Cuba, but not with any members of the dissident community — in or outside of prison. According to the Web site 14ymedio.com, two opposition activists were invited to greet the pope at Havana’s cathedral Sunday but were arrested on the way. Dozens of other dissidents were detained when they attempted to attend an open air Mass. They needn’t have bothered: The pope said nothing in his homily about their cause, or even political freedom more generally. Those hunting for a message had to settle for a cryptic declaration that“service is never ideological.”

Former Bodyguard Unmasks Fidel Castro's Corrupt Double Life

The New York Post offers an excerpt from Juan Reinaldo Sanchez's book on Fidel Castro, the man he said he longed served as a bodyguard.

For 17 years, Juan Reinaldo Sanchez served as a bodyguard to Fidel Castro. But when he became disillusioned with the Cuban dictator’s hypocrisy and tried to retire in 1994, Castro had him thrown in prison. Sanchez made 10 attempts to escape the island, finally making it to Mexico by boat, then across the Texas border in 2008. Now he reveals all in his new book, “The Double Life of Fidel Castro.” In this excerpt, Sanchez explains how he lost faith in the revolution — and “El Jefe.”

Terrorists, Cop Killers Are Communist Cuba's Gruesome Guests

I agree with the New York Post's editorial that Cuba should allow the U.S. to extradite the American terrorists and murderers hiding in Cuba prior to any normalization of relations with the communist island.

The Obama administration — eager to normalize relations with Cuba — is plainly paying lip service to demands that Havana extradite 70-plus American terrorists and murderers whom the Castro regime has granted asylum.

In answer, three New Jersey House Republicans aim to use the power of the purse to exert some much-needed pressure.

Reps. Scott Garrett, Leonard Lance and Tom MacArthur have asked both the GOP chairwoman and the ranking Democrat on a key House Appropriations subcommittee to withhold all funding needed to normalize US-Cuban diplomatic ties.

Their particular concern is Joanne Chesimard (seen in the above photo), a k a Assata Shakur — the Black Liberation Army terrorist sentenced to life in prison in 1977 for the coldblooded killing of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster (seen in the below photo). Six years later, she escaped from prison and made her way to Cuba.

The Anti-Che: Felix Rodriguez, Freedom Fighter And Patriot

Jay Nordlinger at National Review offers an interesting piece on an interesting man, Felix Rodriguez.

Miami, Fla. — Felix Rodriguez seems fated to be linked to Che Guevara. This is not entirely just. Rodriguez loves freedom, and has worked tirelessly for it; Guevara loved tyranny, and worked tirelessly for it. “Two sides of the same coin,” some people say. Maybe — but only in the way that light and dark are two sides of the same coin. Rodriguez had a role in stopping Guevara. He was there, in the Bolivian mountains, in 1967. He was the last person to talk with Guevara — a man who did so much to tyrannize the country where Rodriguez was born, Cuba.

The story of Guevara’s last day has been told many times, in many ways. Rodriguez told it in his 1989 memoir, Shadow Warrior. It is told in a book published earlier this year, Daybreak at La Higuera, by Rafael Cerrato, a Spaniard. La Higuera is the village where Guevara met his end. Cerrato’s main sources for the book are Rodriguez, who was working for the Central Intelligence Agency, and Dariel Alarcón Ramírez, whose nom de guerre was Benigno. A Cuban, Benigno was Guevara’s lieutenant in Bolivia. He was also a member of Fidel Castro’s inner circle. He defected in 1996 — and now he and Rodriguez are friends.

When Nat Hentoff Met Che Guevara

Despite the photo of Che Guevara on t-shirts and posters that serves as a symbol of opposition to tyranny, Che Guevara was in fact, a vicous and violent defender of Communist tyranny in Cuba.

Nate Hentoff, the Cato Institute scholar and former Village Voice columnist, recounts his brief meeting with Che Guevara in a video featured on the WashingtonPost.com web site.

Bay of Pigs At 50: Ex-CIA Agent Who Helped Capture Che Guevara Talks About His Experience In The Bay Of Pigs Invasion

Luisa Yanez in The Miami Herald spoke to Felix Rodriquez, the current President of The Bay of Pigs Brigade 2506, on the 50 anniversary of the failed Bay of Pigs invasion of Fidel Castro's Communist Cuba.

Rodriquez, seen in the above photo, is a former CIA agent who was in Cuba 50 years ago. He later helped hunt down Castro's Communist guerrilla ambassador, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, in Boliva.

Unrequited Love: Fidel Castro Turns On Former Woodstock Performers

Unrequited love is often the theme of popular songs, so perhaps Stephen Stills' next song will be about Fidel Castro's lack of love for him and the other people who gathered at Woodstock in 1969.

Cuban-American Humberto Fontova reports that Fidel Castro (seen in the above photo) is quoting a favorite book that is highly critical of Woodstock.

Yet some the Woodstock performers, like Stills, visited Cuba and wrote glowingly supportive songs about Communist Cuba and the island's strongman Communist dictator, Fidel Castro.

The irony here is that while American rock performers like Stills (seen in the above photo), along with Kris Kristofferson and others, wrote loving songs about Cuba, Castro and Che Guevara, Cuban performers were suffering in Cuban prisons.
