As Biography.com notes, on this date in 1899 Alfred Hitchcock, the director of classic suspense films such as Psycho, North By Northwest and To Catch a Thief, was born.

Filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock was nicknamed the "Master of Suspense" for employing a kind of psychological suspense in his films, producing a distinct viewer experience.
